Procedures before flying according to your destination or layover country.

Updated: May 24, 2021

If you are flying from or to the USA, Netherlands, Great Britain, Canada, Germany, or Turkey, this is what you need to know so you won't be refused to board your flight(s) last-minute.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that it took effect on January 26. The agency said it hoped the new testing requirement would help slow the spread of the virus, now surging in the United States, as the vaccine rollout continues.

Passengers will have to show proof of a negative test to their airline before boarding. If a passenger does not provide a negative test or recovery from COVID-19 or chooses not to take a test, the airline must deny boarding, the CDC says.

If you are traveling to the Netherlands from a high-risk country, you must present a negative PCR test result and a negative rapid test result. This is because there is a risk that travelers arriving from high-risk areas will import and spread coronavirus variants. The mandatory test results are not a substitute for other coronavirus measures, such as the entry ban, self-quarantining, and vaccination.

Travelers entering Great Britain from COVID-19 hotspots now have to quarantine in hotels. From 15 February, travelers returning to England from "red list" countries have to quarantine in government-provided accommodation for 10 days, paid for by the traveler. Anyone returning to Scotland must quarantine in a hotel, not just from red list countries.

The Government of Canada has put emergency measures to slow the introduction and spread of COVID-19 and Canada's variants of concern. You must quarantine for 14 days and monitor yourself for signs and symptoms as required by the Minimizing the Risk of Exposure to COVID-19 in Canada Order (Quarantine, Isolation, and Other Obligations).

Your compliance with the requirements below is subject to verification and enforcement. Those in violation may face transfer to a quarantine facility as well as fines and/or imprisonment.

Current regulations for entry into the Federal Republic of Germany for travelers from risk areas (levels 1 to 3) within the last ten days before entry are obliged to enter a ten-day quarantine immediately after entry.

From the fifth day after entry, it is possible to be tested for the coronavirus and end the quarantine prematurely if the test result is negative. After five days at the earliest, this test is also necessary if a negative test result was available at or before entry (two-test strategy).

Also, you'll be required to fulfill online a Digital Registration on Entry.

Since 14 January 2021, the Robert Koch Institute has divided the risk areas into three risk levels for which different obligations apply:

Flying from abroad to any city in Turkey, you need to pass a PCR test for coronavirus before the trip and get a medical certificate stating that you are not sick. There will be the designation "Negative" or "Negative."

The certificate is valid 72 hours from the date of the analysis and until Turkey's departure. If you passed the test at 15:00 on January 10, you need to take off before 15:00 on January 13. If the certificate is expired or is not available, you will not be allowed on the plane.

The certificate is required for all passengers over 6 years old. If the passenger is 5 years old inclusive and less, the certificate is not needed, and the test is not required.

I'm flying with a transfer in Istanbul or another airport in Turkey.

For example, if from Ukraine to the USA, you transfer to Istanbul or any other airport in Turkey? If you have a single ticket in one booking, you remain in the airport transit area and do not go to the transit area. If you have two tickets, but you fly with the same airline, you will also remain in the transit area.

Since you do not cross the Turkish border, you do not need to take a PCR test for coronavirus upon departure to Turkey. The Turkish authorities have exempted passengers traveling with a transfer to another country through Turkish airports from being tested for coronavirus.

Difficulties may arise for passengers who bought two tickets for two different airlines and need to cross the Turkish border and leave the terminal transit zone into the general area to check-in for the flight. In this case, before flying to Turkey, it will be necessary to pass a coronavirus test when flying to Turkey's cities.
